Explore

Hannover offers unique things. The 4.2 km long Red Thread leads through the city centre along the 36 most important sights of the city. Follow the barrier-free tourist guidance system and take a city tour “on your own”. Since 1970, the Red Thread has led along the city’s sightseeing highlights. The line is painted on the ground and allows you to explore the city on your own. For once, it’s not about the famous Maschsee or the green Eilenriede, but shows what else the city has to offer in the asphalt jungle.

Gardens, parks and forests

Maschsee Stadtwald Eilenriede New Town Hall Barefoot Park

Hannover is also considered a green city because of its many parks. The best known are the beautiful baroque Herrenhäuser Gardens. The city’s green lung is the 640-hectare Eilenriede city forest, which stretches through several parts of the city.
But it is precisely the small, rather unknown green spaces, parks and gardens that are worth discovering. From the Maschpark behind the New Town Hall, you can take the most beautiful pictures of Hannover’s
Hanover’s magnificent building. In addition, almost every district has its own little garden gem to offer.
to offer. The Von-Alten-Garten in Linden, the Willy-Spahn-Park in Ahlem, the
Hermann-Löns-Park in the district of Kleefeld, the Hannover Zoo in Anderten or the Hinübersche
or the Hinübersche Garten in Marienwerder are very nice excursion destinations off the beaten track.

Germany’s first national garden show was held in the city park at the HCC in 1951. Today’s grounds still largely correspond to the appearance of that time and, together with the city’s impressive domed hall, are listed as historical monuments.
